Not in Vain | A Poem

You wished for a child, and the heavens replied

A soul was sent, so small, so wide

Not born to follow where you have been

But to carve their path, yet unseen

They did not ask to see the day

It was your heart that lit the way

And so they came, a gift, a spark

A light to shine, not bound to dark

Do not grieve when they turn anew

For their own dreams must guide them through

They are not shadows of your past

But winds that roam, so free, so vast

They are not treasures to bring you gold

Nor debts to pay when you grow old

Not hands to serve at your demand

But hearts to hold, not to command

No birth is wasted, no life in vain

No love is lost in joy or pain

Even if they choose to stray

Your love will never fade away

You gave them life, but not their mind

You gave them love, but not to bind

Let them bloom in their own space

And know your love was not misplaced

Raise them with kindness, not with chains

Let love be free, not weighed with gains

For they are human, not a price

Not born to serve, but to rise
