Not a Vessel | A Poem

I am not a vessel for dreams left behind

Not a canvas for you to design

I came to this world with a heart of my own

Not to be shaped, not to be cloned

You wished for a child, and here I stand

Not an extension of your own hand

Not here to fix what once went wrong

Not here to dance to someone else’s song

I am not the echoes of chances you missed

Not here to live the life you wished

Not bound to carry your unspoken regret

Not made to settle your unpaid debt

I will not wear the crown you crave

Nor walk the road you thought was paved

For I am not you, and you are not me

I am my own, just let me be

Love me as I am, not what I could be

Not as a mirror, but as someone free

A child is not a dream to mold

But a story waiting to unfold
