BOOK REVIEW 

Legends & Lattes is a cozy fantasy story about Viv, an orc who decides she’s done with being a mercenary and wants to chase a new dream by opening a coffee shop in a town where no one even knows what coffee is. This book shows the idea that it’s never too late to start over and do something that actually makes you happy. Viv’s journey reminds me that changing paths takes courage, but in the end, it’s worth it. A lot of people, just like Viv, reach a point where they leave behind a job or a lifestyle they’ve known for years to try something new, whether that’s starting a small business, switching careers, or following a passion. Her story feels so relatable for anyone who has ever wanted a fresh start.  

But this book is also about the people she meets along the way. As she builds her coffee shop, she also builds a community. There’s Thimble, the quiet rattkin baker, Tandri, the artistic and business-savvy succubus, and Cal, the kindhearted carpenter. What I love about this story is how it shows that success isn’t just about having a good idea, but it’s also sbout the people who support you. Viv’s shop becomes both a place that serves coffee and a space where friendships grow. It’s a reminder that whether in business or in life, having the right people around you can make the difference.  

Another thing I appreciate about this book is how it uses uncommon fantasy tropes. Usually, orcs are warriors, succubi are seductive, and goblins are sneaky. But Legends & Lattes challenges those expectations. Viv chooses to run a coffee shop instead of fighting, Tandri isn’t defined by her succubus nature, and every character gets to be more than what the world assumes they should be. This really connects to real life where so many people feel pressured to follow a certain path because of where they come from or what others expect of them. Viv’s decision to create a new identity for herself is a reminder that we get to decide who we are, no matter what others think.

Viv’s journey as a business owner feels a lot like what real entrepreneurs go through. She has to find the right location, hire the right people, and deal with competition and unexpected problems. On top of that, she’s trying to sell coffee in a town where no one has even heard of it! It’s a huge risk, but she doesn’t give up. She understands that when you introduce something new, people won’t always get it right away. Instead of getting discouraged, she stays patient, lets people try coffee, and slowly builds curiosity. I think that’s such an important lesson, when you believe in something, you have to stick with it, even when others don’t see the value at first.

This feels so true in real life where people don’t just buy products, but they also buy the feeling that comes with them. Viv gets that. This kind of flexibility is so important, not just in business but in life. Sometimes, success isn’t about forcing things to happen, but about understanding people and adjusting when needed.

Banyak orang, kayak Viv, yang sampe di titik di mana mereka ninggalin pekerjaan atau gaya hidup yang udah mereka jalani bertahun-tahun cuma buat nyoba hal baru, entah itu buka usaha kecil-kecilan, ganti karir, atau mengikuti passion. Ceritanya bener-bener relate buat siapa aja yang pernah pengen mulai dari nol lagi.

Tapi, buku ini gak cuma tentang Viv doang. Ini juga tentang orang-orang yang dia temuin sepanjang perjalanan. Pas dia bangun kedai kopinya, dia juga bikin komunitas. Ada Thimble, si tikus kecil yang jago bikin kue, Tandri, succubus yang kreatif dan jago urusan bisnis, sama Cal, tukang kayu yang baik hati. Yang aku suka dari cerita ini adalah gimana ceritanya nunjukin bahwa kesuksesan gak cuma tentang punya ide bagus, tapi juga tentang orang-orang yang mendukung kita. Kedai kopi Viv jadi tempat jual kopi sekaligus jadi tempat di mana pertemanan tumbuh. Ini ngingetin kita bahwa, baik di bisnis atau di hidup, punya orang-orang yang tepat di sekitar kita bisa bikin semua jadi beda.

Satu hal lagi yang aku apresiasi dari buku ini adalah gimana dia bongkar stereotip fantasy yang biasa kita liat. Biasanya, orc itu digambarkan sebagai petarung, succubus itu suka menggoda, dan goblin itu licik. Tapi, Legends & Lattes mengubah ekspektasi itu. Viv milih buka kedai kopi daripada berantem, Tandri gak cuma sekadar succubus yang menggoda, dan setiap karakter bisa jadi lebih dari apa yang dunia harapkan dari mereka. Ini bener-bener relate sama kehidupan nyata di mana banyak orang yang merasa tertekan buat mengikuti jalan tertentu karena tekanan dari sekitar atau ekspektasi orang lain. Keputusan Viv buat bikin identitas baru buat dirinya sendiri adalah pengingat bahwa kita punya hak buat nentuin siapa kita, gak peduli apa kata orang. 

Perjalanan Viv sebagai pemilik usaha tuh rasanya kayak apa yang dialami sama para pengusaha di dunia nyata. Dia harus cari lokasi yang tepat, nyari orang-orang yang cocok buat kerja sama, dan menghadapi persaingan dan masalah-masalah yang tidak terduga. Belum lagi, dia harus jual kopi di kota yang orang-orangnya bahkan gak tau apa itu kopi! Itu risiko besar, tapi Viv gak nyerah. Dia paham bahwa ketika kita memperkenalkan sesuatu yang baru, orang-orang gak selalu langsung ngerti. Daripada nyerah, dia tetap sabar, memberi kesempatan orang-orang untuk cobain kopi, dan pelan-pelan bikin mereka penasaran. Menurutku, itu pelajaran yang penting banget, ketika kita percaya sama sesuatu, kita harus tetap bertahan, bahkan ketika orang lain belum melihat manfaatnya.

Tapi, Viv gak cuma jual kopi aja. Dia juga bikin pengalaman. Kedainya punya suasana yang cozy, aroma kue yang baru keluar dari oven, dan ruangan yang hangat buat orang-orang berkumpul. Ini bener-bener relate sama kehidupan nyata, di mana orang gak cuma beli produk, tapi juga beli perasaan yang mereka dapetin. Viv ngerti banget soal ini. Dia gak maksa orang buat suka kopi atau memaksa mereka buat memahaminya. Sebaliknya, dia mendengar, menyesuaikan diri, dan membiarkan orang-orang jatuh cinta dengan kopi secara alami. Fleksibilitas kayak gini penting banget, bukan cuma di bisnis, tapi juga di hidup. Kadang, kesuksesan itu gak tentang memaksa sesuatu terjadi, tapi tentang mengerti orang lain dan menyesuaikan diri saat diperlukan.

Awalnya cuma kedai kopi kecil, tapi akhirnya jadi tempat di mana orang-orang merasa kayak di rumah. Cerita Viv menunjukkan bahwa kesuksesan gak selalu tentang duit, tapi bisa juga tentang bikin sesuatu yang bermakna dan bikin orang-orang merasa dipahami. Aku suka banget gimana buku ini nunjukin bahwa mengikuti mimpi itu bukan cuma tentang pencapaian pribadi, tapi juga tentang dampak yang kita kasih ke orang-orang di sekitar kita.)

THINGS I LOVE

■One of my favorite things about this book is how Viv builds a community around her. She’s both running a coffee shop and creating a place where people feel safe and welcome. Her friendships with Thimble, Tandri, and the others feel so heartwarming. I love watching them support each other, grow together, and form genuine bonds.

■I also love how unique the concept is. A fantasy book about an orc opening a coffee shop? That’s not something you see every day! Most fantasy stories are about big battles, dangerous quests, or saving the world, but this one focuses on something simple and cozy. It’s such a refreshing change, and I think that’s what makes it stand out. It still has that magical fantasy feel, but in a way that feels warm and comforting.  

■The way the coffee shop is described is another thing I enjoy. The smell of fresh coffee, the warmth of the pastries, the cozy atmosphere, it all feels so real. I could practically taste the baked goods while reading, and honestly, it made me so hungry! This book is like a warm drink on a cold day, the kind of story that makes you want to curl up with a blanket and just enjoy the moment.  

■I also love the message of the story. It’s about second chances, chasing your dreams, and not being afraid to do something different. Viv proves that it’s never too late to start over, which is such an inspiring idea. I think a lot of people, including me, can relate to wanting something more out of life and having to take that scary first step toward change.  

■I appreciate the slow-burn romance and the diverse cast of characters. The relationships feel natural, and this book doesn’t make a big deal about identities. That makes it feel so much more real and refreshing. It’s nice to see a fantasy story where love and identity exist without needing to be the main focus.

(■Salah satu hal favoritku dari buku ini tuh gimana Viv bikin komunitas di sekelilingnya. Dia gak cuma ngurusin kedai kopi, tapi juga bikin tempat di mana orang-orang merasa aman dan nyaman. Pertemanannya sama Thimble, Tandri, dan yang lainnya tuh bener-bener bikin hati adem. Aku suka banget lihat mereka saling support, tumbuh bareng, dan bikin ikatan yang tulus. Bener-bener wholesome!

■Aku juga suka banget sama konsepnya yang unik. Fantasy tentang orc buka kedai kopi? Itu kan jarang banget, ya! Biasanya kan fantasy tuh tentang perang besar, misi berbahaya, atau nyelametin dunia. Tapi ini fokusnya ke hal yang simpel dan cozy. Bener-bener nge-refresh pikiran, dan menurutku itu yang bikin ceritanya beda dari yang lain. Tetep ada nuansa magis fantasy-nya, tapi dalam bentuk yang hangat dan nyaman.

■Cara kedai kopinya dideskripsiin juga bikin aku suka banget. Aroma kopi yang segar, kehangatan kue-kue yang baru keluar dari oven, suasana cozy-nya, semuanya terasa kayak nyata. Aku sampe kayak bisa ngerasain rasa kue-kuenya pas baca, dan jujur, bikin laper banget! Buku ini kayak minuman hangat di hari yang dingin, cerita yang bikin kamu pengen selimutan dan nikmatin momennya aja.

■Pesan ceritanya juga bikin aku suka. Ini tentang kesempatan kedua, mengejar mimpi, dan gak takut buat ngelakuin sesuatu yang berbeda. Viv nunjukin bahwa gak ada kata telat buat mulai lagi, dan itu ide yang bener-bener menginspirasi. Aku yakin banyak orang, termasuk aku, yang bisa relate sama perasaan pengen sesuatu yang lebih dalam hidup ini dan harus ngambil langkah pertama yang seram itu buat berubah.

■Aku juga apresiasi romance-nya yang slow-burn dan karakter-karakternya yang beragam. Hubungannya terasa natural, dan buku ini gak bikin identitas jadi hal yang ribet. Itu bikin ceritanya terasa lebih nyata dan segar. Seneng banget liat cerita fantasy di mana cinta dan identitas ada tanpa harus jadi fokus utama. )

THING I DON'T LIKE 

I really enjoy this book, but the writing style is a bit difficult for me at times. Some parts felt hard to grasp, and I found myself missing small details in the story. Since English isn’t my first language, there were also some words and phrases that felt unfamiliar, which made certain passages harder to follow.

(Aku suka banget sama bukunya, tapi gaya nulisnya kadang bikin agak susah diikuti. Beberapa bagian terasa agak sulit buat dipahami, dan aku kadang kelewat detail-detail kecil di ceritanya. Soalnya bahasa Inggris bukan bahasa pertamaku, jadi ada beberapa kata atau frasa yang kurang familiar, dan itu bikin beberapa bagian jadi agak susah buat diikuti. Tapi overall, ceritanya tetep seru kok! Cuma mungkin butuh effort lebih buat memahami beberapa bagian aja.)

CONCLUSION 

Legends & Lattes is a cozy and heartwarming story that puts a unique spin on fantasy. Instead of epic battles, it focuses on friendship, self-discovery, and chasing your dreams. Viv’s journey from a tough mercenary to a coffee shop owner is inspiring and shows that it’s never too late to start over. I love the warm atmosphere, the supportive friendships, and the message about creating a new life for yourself. The writing style was a bit difficult for me at times, but it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. If you’re looking for a comforting, feel-good story with fantasy elements in it, this book is definitely worth reading.

Aku suka banget sama atmosfer hangatnya, pertemanan yang saling support, dan pesannya tentang bikin hidup baru buat diri sendiri. Gaya nulisnya kadang agak susah buat aku ikutin, tapi itu gak ngeganggu keseruan ceritanya kok. Kalau kamu lagi nyari cerita yang nyaman, bikin seneng, tapi ada unsur fantasy-nya, buku ini worth it banget buat dibaca!)
